Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mechanistic Processes of DNA Entrapment and Loop Extrusion by Cohesin
Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford Grade 7: £33,309 – £40,927 per annum
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Chromosome Biology research group lead by Professor Kim Nasmyth. In particular, we are looking for someone interested in developing novel in vitro techniques to probe the mechanistic details surrounding the processes of DNA entrapment and loop extrusion by cohesin.
Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject; and have experience in the relevant field of chromosome biology. You should have laboratory experience in core molecular and biochemical techniques, especially with protein engineering, protein expression using bacteria and insect cell systems, protein purification using AKTA systems and other protein analysis techniques, together with experience in protein crosslinking assays and in-vitro ATP hydrolysis measurement techniques. Experience with quantitative image analysis, negative stain electron microscopy is essential, along with skills in structural biology including x-ray crystallography and SAXs, as is having a good publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
This full-time, fixed-term post is funded by Cancer Research UK for up to 1 year in the first instance and is based at The Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.
This position is graded on the University’s grade 7 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
