Postdoc In Connected Embedded Systems And/Or Secure Real-Time Networks

At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, communications officers, network technicians and engineers. Here we have the research specialisations of Embedded Systems, and Innovation and Product Realisation. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

This postdoc will focus either on connecting cyber-physical systems and embedded systems-of-systems in a secure and safe way, such that the strict timing requirements of the embedded application can be fulfilled also in a setting with intermittent connectivity between subsystems and transient communication errors. In this case, example applications include collaborative vehicles or robots as well as constrained areas requiring high situation awareness. The connectivity should be wireless, secure, safety informed and technology neutral, i.e., targeting both centralized and decentralized networks.
The other focus area of interest is the coverage of real-time functions deployed in large-area networks, as envisioned in digitalization, Industrial IoT, and Industry 4.0. The aim is to overcome the current limitations with either dedicated networks for real-time traffic, or islands of networks, with limited reach and coverage, that have different quality of service requirements, and where boundary crossing has severe impact on end-to-end performance. Having both wired and wireless communication in such networks, with different quality of service mechanisms further push for novel security solutions, that advance both state-of-art and state-of-practice.
The candidate will have the opportunity to cooperate with PhD students, senior researchers and several strategic industrial partners from robotics, process automation and the vehicular industry, besides the members of the research group.
The position is a temporary employment of 2 years.
The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in Communication Systems, Communication Networks, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar.
The applicant must have completed the degree no more than three years before the end of the application period.
Specific requirement for the position include communication theory or data communications.
The applicant should be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
