Position Title Postdoctoral Research Associate Department Molecular Biology & Biochem-1103 Job Category Staff Posting Position Type Full-Time Position Details
Wesleyan University MB&B Department, Padilla-Benavides Lab is seeking a post- doctoral research associate to work in a project to investigate transcriptional mechanims of copper (Cu) homeostasis to promote development and disease.
Cu is necessary for growth, development and metabolism in humans. Abnormal Cu absorption, excretion or distribution results in health conditions, such as Menkes and Wilson diseases, and mitochondrial, neurological and cardiac pathologies. This project will characterize novel molecular mechanisms by which Cu and Cu-binding transcription factors regulate lineage-specific gene expression and muscle development, and will establish a basis to understand muscular phenotypes observed in multiple diseases related to Cu deficiencies at a transcriptional level.
The lab is highly collaborative, and strongly values and supports colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are part of a dynamic biochemistry community with outstanding resources, facilities and training. For more information, see the lab website: https:// terepadillabenavides.faculty.wesleyan.edu/.
Responsibilities include: • Preparation of project results for manuscripts. • Assisting the PI in the design of related projects. • Mentoring and coordinating graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
The postdoc will also be welcome to participate in the Department’s ongoing intellectual life, including the weekly M&BB Journal Clubs and the seminar series, and will be offered the option to contribute a guest lecture in an undergraduate course.
The postdoc will have the opportunity to present research to, and interact with, this community, and the option to develop additional research collaborations if desired.
Funding has been approved for 1 year. Continuation of this position is dependent upon mutual agreement and continued grant funding. Start date is flexible and can be as early as October 1st, 2021.
