The Research Design Service South East (RDS SE) is a leading provider of PPI/E advice to health and social care researchers in the South East Coastal region which includes Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS). In this role of Strategic Lead and Research Adviser in Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E), you will develop the high profile RDS SE has in this field and work in line with National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) strategic plans, but also work closely with stakeholders in the region (Clinical Research Network KSS, Applied Research Collaboration KSS and above all our clients located in NHS Trusts, primary care, social care, public health and HEIs).
You will undertake a range of activities within the RDS-SE PPI/E team, assuming responsibility for leading on strategic and operational direction of the PPI work stream, in consultation with Director and Deputy Director of RDS- SE and the Strategic Management Group of RDS SE. Using your initiative and creativity, you will also provide guidance in promoting effective ways of encouraging and supporting RDS clients to work with members of the public in research design choices so that public involvement is embedded throughout the project and continually review the RDS SE PPI/E structure across the region to increase opportunities for patients and the public to support the aims of the RDS-SE.

At Senior Research Fellow level you will also need:
a recognised authority in the subject area of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE). Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the area of expertise/discipline to challenge or lead thinking and develop research programmes and methodologies.
We offer a 0.5 full time equivalent post, with flexible working hours, but a willingness to accommodate the needs of the role. Willingness to travel and meet staff or teams across the Kent, Surrey and Sussex region is a requirement although currently almost all our meetings including those with clients are virtual. This will be a fixed term post until 30 Sept 2023 when the current contract is due for renewal.
