Overview
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory seeks to fill a postdoctoral researcher position at PPPL under the Plasma Science and Technology. The successful candidate will investigate the physical mechanisms governing the optimization of the coupling efficiency of the laser-produced-plasma (LPP) for the microelectronic industries. The successful candidate will be responsible in developing a particle-in-cell simulation of LPP to study interaction efficiency and debris ion acceleration. The appointment will be based at PPPL.
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and extension of the Plasma Simulation Code (PSC) particle-in-cell code to simulate laser-droplet interaction relevant to optimizing laser-produced plasmas as a EUV photon source.
PSC is a first-principles electromagnetic particle-in-cell code with Coulomb collisions and a laser-plasma interaction module.
Simulations will be used to scope and design upcoming experiments and provide predictions to optimize EUV plasma sources.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist, and an excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a large research team.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Applicant should have a Ph.D. in plasma physics, laser-plasma interactions, or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in plasma simulation with experimental application, in particular radiation hydrodynamics or particle-in-cell simulations of plasmas.
Some experimental experience is desired.
