美国加州大学圣地亚哥分校生物信息学(计算基因组学)博士后职位
Postdoctoral researcher in Bioinformatics (Computational Genomics)
A computational research position is available in the group of Dr. Vikas Bansal at the University of California San Diego. The group is based in the School of Medicine (Division of Genome Information Sciences) and focuses on developing computational methods for the detection of genetic variation using high-throughput DNA sequencing technologies and applying these methods to analyze human genomes. Long-read sequencing technologies have advanced rapidly in recent years and have the potential to overcome some of the key limitations of short-read sequencing, particular in long repetitive regions of the human genome, but require the development of new algorithms. The lab has developed state-of-the-art computational methods for haplotype phasing (HapCUT2, Genome Research 2017), variant calling (Longshot, Nature Communications 2019) and read mapping in segmental duplications (Nucleic Acids Research 2020) using long-read sequencing technologies. We are looking for an individual who is interested in developing computational methods and tools to tackle challenging problems in the analysis of human genomes using DNA sequencing technologies.
Required Qualifications:
•Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Applied Mathematics or related field
•Proficiency in algorithms, programming (proficiency in a low-level language such as C/C++/Java as well as Python/R)
•Significant experience working with large datasets in a Unix/Linux computing environment
•Proficiency in scientific writing and communication
Desired Qualifications:
•Demonstrated experience in the development of open-source computational tools involving algorithms
•Experience in working with DNA sequencing datasets
All applicants are expected to have a strong academic record with first-author publication(s) in good academic journals. Individuals with a Computer Science background but no experience in Bioinformatics or Genomics are encouraged to apply. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and skills. To apply, send a CV, research statement highlighting your previous research experience relevant for this position, and contact information for 2-3 references to Vikas Bansal at vibansal@ucsd.edu.
