The Bakel lab is looking for a Postdoctoral or a visiting scholarFellow with a strong background in bioinformatics to join ongoing projects that are focused on the embryonic development of craniofacial, limb, and/or neural tube structures.
The projects involve integrated and network analyses of an array of cutting-edge genomic datasets, such as single-cell RNA-Seq and spatial transcriptomics profiles of developing tissues in normal and mutant mouse models, of organoid models, and during differentiation of different cell types from human iPSCs.
These datasets will be used to characterize cell types and their organization in two- and three-dimensional space during early development, and to study regulation of gene expression and pathways that drive development at the cellular level. Projects in the lab are funded through NIH grants and contracts. The Bakel lab website and publication record can be found at: https://bakellab.mssm.edu/.
The candidate will work within an integrated, multidisciplinary team of experimental and computational scientists at the Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics or computer science, with a background in transcriptome analyses and excellent quantitative skills.
The successful applicant will have strong training in single cell and/or spatial transcriptomics and data mining, and the ability to work in a collaborative team setting.
Specific qualifications include:
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Genomics and RNA-Seq data analysis
- Differential gene expression profiling (e.g., using voom/limma)
- Co-expression network analysis (e.g., WGCNA, MEGENA)
- 10X Genomics single-cell expression analysis (e.g. Seurat)
- 10X Visium spatial transcriptomics analysis.
- Statistical analysis (e.g., using R, Matlab)
- Programming (e.g., python)
- Ability to complete tasks efficiently and independently
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting
