Description:
Yi lab at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute and Biomedical Engineering is seeking candidates for two postdoctoral positions on cutting-edge 3D optical imaging. We develop innovative imaging techniques for both clinical applications and basic science.
The structural organization of the biological systems are highly complex, spanning several orders of magnitude, from nanometers (e.g. chromatin compaction in nuclei) to centimeters (e.g. tissue and organ structures).
How different components constitute the complex systems are the most fundamental and mysterious mechanisms in all lives, and we are to unravel these mechanisms by imaging. The lab is interdisciplinary crossing biophysics, engineering, medicine, and emphasizing technical translation.
Projects:
Both projects are NIH funded.
The first position focuses on ophthalmic imaging for high-speed high-resolution 3D retinal imaging. We develop several new imaging techniques that offers retina function, 3D vascular imaging, ultrahigh depth resolution, capillary-level oximetry, and rich retinal scattering spectroscopy.
The second position focuses mesoscopic light sheet microscopy, for high-speed volumetric imaging in biological samples. The candidates will learn and be responsible for the end-to-end design of device, imaging, and data processing.
We expect the candidates to be motivated and productive, and are committed to propel the candidates’ academic career.
Requirement:
The positions will require PhD degree on relevant scientific disciplines, for example, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science.
Candidates with experiences on optics, ophthalmic imaging, optical microscopy will be highly competitive. Although we emphasize hand-on experimental experiments, strong background on deep learning computation on image processing will also be considered.
Environment:
Would-renowned, top-notch academic environment and research collaboration at JHU is a must-see and the key to success.
Both Wilmer Eye Institute and Biomedical engineering are leaders in their field in the country (ranked #1). Our lab is located in Smith Building (picture below), one of the newest and most modern buildings in the medical campus.
The open and collaborative environment is exciting, and offers broad interdisciplinary interactions with basic and clinical scientists.
About us:
Our lab has a strong track record of technical innovations. We emphasize the physical principle and design of the imaging, as well as the practical applications. We are committed to support candidates to be independent and successful in their academic career.
