We are inviting applications for a Research Assistant/Associate position in the study of fundamental and applications of magnesium nanoparticles at the University of Cambridge.
The successful applicant will combine optical spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and numerical approaches to the understanding of the behaviour of magnesium particles in thermal and catalytic applications.
The group has a strong background in nanoparticle synthesis as well as optical and electron microscopy characterization. We are looking for a Research Associate/Assistant with complementary numerical and/or experimental expertise in plasmon-induced photon absorption and decay, and with an interest in learning a diverse range of experimental spectroscopies.
Candidates should have a PhD, or about to be awarded a PhD, and a strong background in physics, chemistry, or a closely related subject.
Knowledge of plasmonic decay behaviour, numerical approaches to solving Maxwell’s equations, coding in matlab and/or python, and optical spectroscopy is required.
Experience with electron microscopy, experimental optical approaches and code development is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
The project is funded by the European Research Commission Grant Sustainable Plasmon-Enhanced Catalysis (SPECs). The position will be available from September 1st 2021, with a flexible start date between September 1st 2021 and January 30th 2022.
The position will be based in the Department of Earth Sciences and have full access to the facilities available in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy.
