The Wu Lang Research Group of the University of Hawaii Cancer Center recruits postdoctoral, doctoral, visiting students or visiting scholars.
Our major research interests are genetic epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, and multigroup based research in cancer (e.g., pancreatic and prostate cancers) and alzheimer’s disease(multi-omics such as genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics etc),And nutritional epidemiology. Our work mainly uses epidemiological resources and data.
Our work mainly uses epidemiological resources and data (such as Cohort studies and case-control studies) and the large International Cancer consortium. Our existing work has been published in high-level journals in the field (e.g., Nat Genet, 2018; Nat Commun, 2020; Cancer Res, 2019 and 2020) and is frequently selected as the oral presentation of academic conferences in the field (e.g., AACR and ASHG).
PI graduated from wuhan University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and received his PhD from The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in the United States. He completed his post-doctoral training in oncology epidemiology and genetic epidemiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Tumor epidemiology at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. PI was also awarded the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award and other Grant.
The University of Hawaii is recognized as a Leading Research Institute in the field of tumor epidemiology. For example, along with the University of Southern California, the University of Hawaii is the Home of the Multiethnic Cohort Study (MEC).
A large cohort study on five different ethnic populations (Japanese Americans, Latinos, Whites, African Americans and Native Hawaiians) is as deadly as the populations are Hawaiians.
MEC has become a unique research in the existing queues with its ethnic diversity and representation of minority populations. With the rich scientific environment, there are multiple unique research training opportunities, such as research seminars given by recognized leaders in the field, opportunities for collaborations nationally and internationally, and exposure to diverse research programs and outstanding core facilities.
We are also committed to assisting our members in their career and scientific development as much as possible.
I hope you:
- Has or will have a PhD in epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, genetics, etc
- Strong programming skills (such as R or Python or Perl), familiar with or can quickly grasp the operation of Linux/Unix systems
- Good statistical background, preferably with some omics data analysis experience (e.g. genomics, transcriptome, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.)
- Have some experience in writing English papers
- Self-motivated, can think and solve problems relatively independently
- Strong ability to learn new knowledge and skills
Positions can be started immediately. Postdoctoral salaries will be based on NIH Salary Scale and benefits will be based on university standards. Please contact email lwu@cc.hawaii.edu
