The University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of agricultural plant genomics and breeding. This position is part of a major initiative to maintain and enhance UCR’s world class research program in citrus and subtropical crops, as needed to address challenges posed by climate change, exotic pests and diseases, and to improve the health benefits of citrus.

The successful candidate will have an appointment in an appropriate department, such as Botany and Plant Sciences, Microbiology and Plant Pathology, or Entomology, and in the Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station at UCR. We seek an individual able to apply modern genetic and statistical genomic approaches to facilitate development of commercially successful cultivars of citrus and other crop plants, potentially including complementary research on model plants. A Ph.D. in genetics, plant breeding or other relevant discipline is required with a demonstrated record of excellence in research in a relevant discipline, and research experience in plant improvement. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. An additional requirement is a strong commitment to educating a diverse student body for the technological workforce. Faculty are encouraged to collaborate broadly with colleagues at UCR and elsewhere and entrepreneurship is encouraged. Excellent support for laboratory research is provided by core facilities in the Institute for Integrative Genome Biology and Plant Transformation Research Center. Field research is supported by a field station at UCR and a system of agricultural research and extension centers throughout the state. The appointment could commence as early as July 1, 2018. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive start-up package will be provided. Applicants are expected to initiate a vibrant externally funded research program that addresses current and future needs of the California citrus industry and public. Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected.
