Postdoctoral Fellow in Catalytic Organic Chemistry
atDepartment of Organic Chemistry. Closing date: 10 November 2021 .
The Department of Organic Chemistry is a big departments at the Faculty of Natural Science with about 100 employees, 40 graduate students and 20 postdocs. The teaching focuses on organic chemistry involving both physical organic chemstry and synthetic organic chemistry. The main research areas are organic synthesis and catalysis.
Project description The project involves the development of new heterogeneous metal catalysts for organic synthesis where different forms of cellulose are employed as carriers for metals. The new metal catalysts will be studied for obtaining different organic transformations. The project is divided in two parts. In one part, studies will be made for the immobilization of metal catalysts to crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) and in another part these catalysts will be explored in selective organic reactions. Examples on reaction to be studied are metal- catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenations of olefins. The metals used in this project will primarily be first-row transition metals such as iron, cobalt and nickel. In previous studies we have immobilized nano-palladium on CNC.
Main responsibilities The position involves research within the area of organic chemistry. The research will include synthesis of different types of cellulose-based heterogeneous metal catalysts oand their use in synthetic transformations.
Qualification requirements Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Experience metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenations are important for carrying out the project.
Terms of employment The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as soon as possible or as per agreement.
