At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Postdoc in Membrane Engineering is open for appointment from 01. November 2021 – 31.October 2024 or soon hereafter. The position is located within the Section of Chemistry with working place in Aalborg.
The Postdoc project covers recovery of fresh water and strategic, valuable minerals from unconventional sources such as desalination brine. The project is funded by the Poul Due Jensen Foundation. The project will provide alternatives to the traditional sources of fresh water and minerals by applying membrane distillation and membrane crystallization. The main outcome is expected to be proof-of-concept of the scale-up potential for membrane distillation and membrane crystallization. The candidate will be applying membrane distillation and membrane crystallization on different waste streams with specific focus on phosphorus and lithium recovery. Moreover, overall energy consumptions and economy of the process will be evaluated.
The candidate is expected to have a strong publication record and practical and theoretical experience in membrane distillation or membrane crystallization. Experiences with membrane synthesis for membrane distillation, modeling and simulation of membrane distillation and analytical methods for characterization of membranes as well as water/wastewater samples will be an advantage.
Supervision of students and limited teaching within the area can be expected.
The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists at the moment of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Biology & Environmental Science. Moreover, one section is located in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology and one section is situated in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering. You will be collaborating with other members of the Center for Membrane Technology group under the supervision by Associate Professor Cejna Anna Quist-Jensen.
Competences of the successful applicant:
Hold a PhD degree within Chemical Engineering or in a relevant program
Outstanding research experience in membrane engineering
Experience with membrane distillation or membrane crystallization
Complex problem solving skills and critical thinking
Ability to work in an international team
Ability to conduct work in a structured and systematic manner and with a sufficient degree of independence
An integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills
Fluency in English – written and oral

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
