The School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral or a visiting Scholar, in the area of Infectious Disease and Vaccinology. This is a full-time position with an expected start date in October 2020.
The Stanley lab seeks a Postdoctoral or a visiting Scholar to perform laboratory research focused on immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
The focus of the Stanley Lab is to understand the basis for effective immune responses to the bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis and to understand how M. tuberculosis subverts or avoids the immune response to maintain chronic infection.
The lab leverages interdisciplinary approaches, including screening strategies (e.g. CRISPR screens in the host and transposon screens in the bacteria), mouse genetics, microscopy, and transcriptomics/proteomics.
The candidate will utilize the mouse model, tissue culture, and human cells as model systems to dissect the host-pathogen interaction, focusing on metabolic regulation of the host-pathogen interaction, bacterial virulence strategies, and protective immune responses to infection.
The exact aims of the research project will be tailored to the expertise of the applicant and to complement the overarching Stanley lab research interests.
Basic qualifications (at time of application):
Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) granting program at the time of application
Ph.D. in one of a variety of fields, including but not limited to Microbiology, Immunology
Experience with cell culture and/or animal models of infection
Experience with bacterial pathogenesis and mouse models
The Postdoctoral Scholar position is full-time for a two-year term.
Salary scales for Postdoctoral Scholars are set by the University of California and the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW).
